BanaBay Strides Ahead in China

Following a booming year in the banana business, BanaBay is concentrating on developing long term strategic relationships with customers in one of its key regions, China.

Since establishing an operating base in Shanghai in 2014, the fruit grower and distributor has secured two significant new customers and is shipping 43 containers of bananas a week to China.

To handle the increased business, Yuchi Li who was responsible for opening up the market in the region for BanaBay, has been promoted to Senior Business Development Manager for Asia. He says:

“This is a very exciting time for BanaBay. Our customers in China are becoming an important part of our overall business and have developed a real taste for Ecuadorian bananas. As well as plans to keep on growing with our current contracts, we are hoping to introduce new lines such as recent portfolio additions baby bananas and apples”.

With a view to increasing volumes of bananas to 50 containers a week to China, negotiations are also underway with customers in Korea and Japan. Li adds: “After market analysis it makes sense for us to focus our efforts on customers in China, Korea & Japan as other countries in Asia are fully able to grow their own bananas.”
