A Fresh Produce Consortium event held on 1st October was an exciting day for some of BanaBay’s newest recruits.

With the chance to see boxes of freshly delivered bananas, in all their glory, at Spitalfields Market, have a chat with stallholders and find out what this trade is all about.

The networking event included a talk about the wholesale marketplace which accounts for 35% of all fresh produce sales.

Trends indicate that a BanaBay banana is more like to end up on a restaurant plate as food service channels are currently more dominant overtaking those of retail and greengrocery.

After a tour of one of London’s most established and important markets, there was a hearty breakfast followed by a discussion forum then it was back off to HQ in Birmingham.

Briony Dunmore, recently appointed Global Marketing Assistant for BanaBay, said:

“I really enjoyed the buzz of the market, networking with others in the trade and seeing our beautiful big bananas towards the end of the ‘plantation to plate’ supply chain.”
