BanaBay Gets Behind Mental Health Campaign

BanaBay is naturally supporting #weRallbananas a social media campaign to get across the message about mental health issues and make it easier for young people to access information and advice.

Set up by Youth Speak covering the North East Region, the campaign uses imagery and filmmaking to break down barriers and acknowledge that everyone at some point in their lives can be affected by mental health issues.

BanaBay will be supplying bananas at various events across the region particularly for the banana selfies on which people are encouraged to write their messages of support and advice to post on social media.

Briony Dunmore at BanaBay who adopted the cause hopes to encourage other inspirational people and organisations to be brave and share something of their own struggles.  She says:

“#weRallbananas is a bold and lighthearted way to reach out to young adults at a time in their lives when mental health difficulties can emerge and we are delighted to add some ‘banana armour’ to the campaign.  It is particularly relevant for us to be involved as bananas are great natural mood enhancers because they contain tryptophan which increases serotonin levels.”

This is what you need to do:

  • ·         Please write your best bit of advice on a banana, take a selfie and post it to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using our #weRallbananas hashtag and the message ‘My good advice 4 #weRallbananas.’

  • ·         Visit

  • ·         Txt donate MSMD10 £2 to 70070.

  • Most importantly encourage others to do the same!

*This project is funded by The Leverhulme Trust Artist in Residence Grant and regional Mind organisations are backing the campaign by providing extra drop-in sessions and support activities throughout July and August 2015. The Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art is supporting the campaign and will exhibit a selection of the banana selfies towards the end of 2015.
